Manual carbon footprint calculations tend to be time-consuming, inaccurate, and difficult to justify. We know what AI does not tell you
Product Composition
AI cannot determine on its own which components, processes, and life cycle stages should be included in the calculation. Without expert assessment, it cannot correctly establish the functional unit, system boundaries, or relevant exemptions for a specific product.
Production Data Collection
AI cannot independently set up reliable data collection from production or choose defensible allocation rules. It cannot correctly decide how to allocate energy consumption, waste, or overhead processes among products sharing the same technologies.
Methodological Inaccuracies
AI does not automatically recognize all methodological inconsistencies, incomplete inputs, or errors in units and time periods. Without expert review, it might carry these flaws into the calculation, creating a formally precise but factually incorrect result.
Portfolio-Wide Scaling
AI cannot design a robust system to scale calculations across an entire product portfolio on its own. Without properly configured data links, rules, and controls, automation may only multiply the original errors faster across hundreds of products.
